Our Story

I fell in love with baking at 10 years old. Although my path diverted toward science, baking was always a past-time and a creative outlet I cherished. In fact, it served as my motivation to pursue a degree in Biochemistry since as they say “baking is a science”. For years I found happiness in sharing my treats with my friends and family. Brainstorming new recipes, whisking in the kitchen and seeing the smiles on peoples faces as they enjoyed the goods I created brought the warmest feelings. I would look forward to any occasion that I could bake a new cake, or cupcakes, for a friend’s birthday, my parents’ anniversary or my baby sister’s graduation. This was a special way of using my skill and my passion to show love to those around me. As time passed I thought to myself, “what if baking was more than just a hobby? What if I could do it full time as a business?”…. I began to daydream about this dream becoming a reality. But as we all do, I let life get in the way. “Next year”, I’d tell myself…as each year passed. I tried to reconcile the drive I felt to start this business with the hesitation that pulled me back and continued to bake for only friends and family. The person I baked for the most, who served as my taste tester for new creations and my ever supportive critic was my baby sister Nicole. Sitting at the kitchen island waiting for her feedback on my French Toast cupcakes I finally got the courage to speak my dream aloud. “What if my baking was more than just a hobby?”….”What if it WAS and why COULDN’T it be?” she replied.

At least twice a month I spent my Saturday afternoon with my sister in our kitchen. I always knew when she was going to try a new recipe because she would get lost in her notebook, scribbling down ingredients and sketching designs. One afternoon as I tested her new recipe for French Toast cupcakes she asked, “what if my baking was more than just a hobby?” Reflecting on all the years I had seen her baking in our kitchen, the smile that it brought to her face and the undeniable skill she also had, my response was certain: “what if it WAS and why COULDN’T it be?” And with that brief deliberation, we plunged ourselves into our business. From that point, we were more than sisters, we were a team. As Brenda creates new unique recipes and sharpens her technical skills, I take care of the logistics and operations that allow her to create. This has become more than a shared experience in encouraging my sister’s dream to fruition. BreshCakes is our shared endeavor that perfectly combines her artistry and my direction. The time we have invested has not only established our business, it’s helped us grow are sisters!
